Each summer 5-10 female minority high school students are accepted into our rigorous summer healthcare internship. Students take a deep dive into healthcare; they work 25-40 hours per week alongside a healthcare preceptor in a private clinic or hospital setting. Students are assigned a clinic based on their interests. They are exposed to medicine, dentistry, optometry or ophthalmology via shadowing, administrative work, and hands-on patient care.
The S.C.O.R.E., INC. healthcare internship is unique in that students must attend 6 hours of professional development classes on confidence building, executive function, and soft skills development. As well as oratorical skills preparation and tips how to dress for success.
At the end of the internship each student is awarded $500 in scholarship to use for college application fees or college books.
